Sri Lanka safari

Taking part in a safari was one of the main reasons to visit Sri Lanka. From the beginning, I knew that I want to see the wildlife and be part of something that I have not had a chance to experience before.

We have chosen Udawalawe National Park for our safari for its fame of elephants. Seeing them live was one of my biggest dreams and I still feel the same level of excitement writing this post as I did when I was in the park.  Traveling in Sri Lanka is very tiring and takes time but if there is one thing that you should see visiting that country, it should be the safari.

Udawalawe National Park was created to provide shelter for wild animals back in 1972. It is most known for elephants as well as water birds and it is third most visited park in the whole of Sri Lanka.

We started our day by being picked up from our hotel about 10.30 am. As we were staying close to Galle, it took about three hours to get to the destination. From there, we moved vehicles and the real adventure began !!

The safari itself took about three hours and I cannot praise our tour guide enough. He was very informative and tried to show us as much as possible. Some of the animals we saw, were too quick-moving to be able to capture their images but I hope you will still be able to get the sense of experience and the beauty of the park.

The pictures that I am sharing with you, although beautiful do not give this park enough justice. I loved every single minute and I hope to repeat the experience in different parts of the world in the near future.

I will have a vlog coming your way very soon, featuring the whole day on this amazing safari so stay tuned for that !

Thank you very much for reading and stopping by !!

What I wore Sunday… anniversary dinner

Once a year a day comes when me and my husband celebrate our wedding anniversary as most married couples. I am surprise how much I love that day and how much I am looking forward to the next one. We have been together for more than eleven years now and although partnership is not always easy, I cannot be more proud of where we are now !

The outfit for that evening was not completely my choice but I do like it very much. As the second wedding anniversary is fabric, my anniversary gift is this beautiful dress selected by my other half. It is a very modest dress from the front but the back tells completely different story. I am not sure if I did it justice so I may try to style it differently in the foreseeable future.

The rest of the look is just my most worn in the recent months pair of heel and my hair in ponytail as the weather and humidity in Sri Lanka was preventing me from doing anything else with them…

I hope you will like what I wore that (anniversary) Sunday !!

What I wore Sunday… one day in Sri Lanka

My love of traveling and discovering new and undiscovered is huge… As a result, once a year we try to go far away to the country we have not been to before. This year the country of choice is Sri Lanka. Full of contrasts, with difficult past, poverty mixing with luxury it is a very interesting place. Beautiful beaches, amazing wildlife within national parks, noisy streets and people who make this country are only few things definitely worth discovering… But more on that in the coming weeks !

For this very causal day, I went all white with a touch of black. I bought this beautiful dress, quite some time ago (on sale) but if felt too special for everyday use and I waited for the right time to wear it. The detail and the lace is on it, is truly special and I know it is timeless enough that I will be able to wear it in five or ten years time.

I pair it with my favourite pair of sandals and a Sensi Studio hat that you may have already seen here and here. These accessories are such a good quality items and in my opinion go with this outfit very well. Sir Lanka weather is hot and humid and the sun is very strong so wearing a hat is a must for me !

Without further delay that is what I wore Sunday (Sri Lanka style…) !

Hand luggage essentials

When I travel, I like to be comfortable. I also like to feel good in myself and I always try to look fairly put together. I does not really matter if it is a weekend away or two weeks of sightseeing, I will aways have few travel essentials by my side.

It maybe controversial but I like to limit my carry-ons, especially when I am flying. I do not like to have too many thing with me, mainly because of convenience and the weight. However, there are few things I would not travel without and I thought it will be useful to share them with you…

The ‘must-have‘ list includes the following:

  • Toiletries

They will be quite minimal in my case and will always include: contact lens solution and case, toothbrush and toothpaste, makeup wipes, deodorant, universal face moisturiser (that can double up as a hand-cream) and a small, travel-friendly bottle of fragrance.

  • Travel documents and passport

They are always by my side in less or more organised way… I never put any of my travel documents in plastic pockets, instead I like to fold them and store them in my passport holder for convenience and space-saving…

  • Electricals

Extra phone charger, laptop, camera and all the lenses are too pricy and very needed when I am on a go so they will always travel with me in a hand-luggage. If I take tripod, laptop charger and all the adaptors I may need, I will keep them in a main luggage as they use is limited during traveling.

  • Reading materials

Magazines are good but only for few minutes in my case. There is nothing like a good book, gripping enough so you will not be able to put it down. I remember one eight-hour flight during which I read entire Gone Girl… best flight ever !

  • Extras (socks, sunglasses and pricy items)

As I am cold most of the time, I like to have my nice, comfy pair of socks with me. I know that most airlines will provide some free-of-charge but my own are my favourites. Sunglasses are also an essential, even if I am not traveling anywhere hot. They are perfect if you are without make up and always add that special something to the look.

  • Snacks

I am a fairly healthy eater and I generally like to know what goes into food I am going to eat. Nuts and dry fruits (dates and figs are my favourites) will be always in my bag even if I am not traveling. A bottle of water is also very needed but I am not going to lie… I will have a G&T especially on long-haul flights !

What about you ?

What are your travel carry-on essentials ?

What I wore Sunday… in search for a perfect light

Taking pictures on a Sunday became a tradition now. My husband stopped protesting and even bought a new lens… The ones that you will see today are a couple of weeks old when the weather was still more like summer than autumn. Since then UK started preparing for colder season with new stock in every clothing shop. Days are shorter and shorter and unfortunately it is colder than I would have liked.

For this outgoing I decided to go very casual and I hope you will not be disappointed by what you see. Probably not the most adventurous of outfits but it feels completely me. My favourite pair of jeans and the t-shirt I bought some time ago that has that perfect, more flattering fit. I could not resist and wore the new pair of espadrilles (first shown here) which in my opinion add that special something to this look.

However, the best part of that Sunday outgoing was the view. I have never been to this port before, but it completely blew me away. The colours and the light were truly perfect. This particular type of light is so difficult to capture, delicate yet powerful and used perfectly lets you shine…

So that is what I Wore (this casual) Sunday !!

August

I feel like August was a good month for me. Not everything I set to achieve happened but that is what life is all about. Expecting unexpected is something that I always keep in mind !

What August has taught me is to stand my ground and believe in myself more. Self-confidence is something that I have to work on constantly with some days being better than the others but I think I am winning xx

Fashion-wise it was a very adventurous month. I made few purchases, some of which you may had a chance to see on the blog or my Instagram account.

My favourite new thing would have to be a pair of espadrilles from Castaner (first shown here). They are the most classic pair, exceptionally made and they will stay in my closet for a very long time !

Story by Aggie 22

Another thing worth mentioning is this Zara set, I got at the end of the month. I was eyeing this knit from the moment I first saw it but the shirt was a total surprise. I am not a huge fan of the prints, especially 70s inspired but somehow I could stop myself from trying it on. The end result is quite obvious on this picture !

Statistic-wise two most popular blog posts of last month would be from What I wore Sunday series Country life is never boring followed closely by Hollywood glamour. Interestingly, my personal favourite would be the end of the month for July. Looking back on the last thirty days, gives me sense of satisfaction and achievement.

I have also added an additional feature to my blog. It is called Shop my closet and you can find it in the main panel next to menu and contact links. I will try to list all my new finds as well as some timeless pieces from my wardrobe in case you are interested !!

Finally, I am really looking forward to September. The beginning of a new season as well as my wedding anniversary makes that month really special. I have one or two things planned that will come as a surprise so stay tuned for that !!
