What I wore Sunday… polka dot

When I heard about dilapidated estate waiting to be demolished covered in street art, I knew it is a place I have to visit. I am not sure what is it about street art I like so much but I guess it must be self-expression aspect of it.

As I cannot draw and I have very little if any manual or artistic skills, I express myself through the outfits I wear. This is one is very simple and comfortable yet put together in my opinion. I bought this dress few weeks ago and I wore it non-stop. It seems to be good for casual outgoing as well as work and going out depending on the matching accessories. And as polka dot is a print that never goes out of style, I am intending to wear it season after season !

As my outfit is very monochrome (read boring for some), I decided to add a splash of colour and went for my statement red lip. It is very interesting how much confidence you can get out of the lipstick, but it works for me every time.

So that is what I wore Sunday !

What I wore Sunday… one day in Berlin

I do not know if you like making lists but I personally do not… There are only few that I am happy to make and they are mostly travel-related. Going to Berlin, seeing Berlin Wall and getting the feel for the city was long time coming for me.

It took me by surprise how familiar Berlin felt, especially the east side where we stayed. Public transport, layout of the streets, blocks of flats reminded me of my hometown so much so that I was catching myself matching particular areas to the ones from my childhood in Poland.

Berlin Wall itself did not disappoint me and I know that I will visit it again at some point in my life. Being born in mid 80s Berlin Wall was and still is a symbol of better life and freedom, something that defines most of our pursuits.

For this What I wore Sunday I wanted to blend with the surroundings and I wanted to show you my favourite part of Berlin more that my outfit. It is very plain and minimalistic but it was perfect for the whole day of sightseeing.

Because I am showing you a lot of street art some of the images (one in particular…) maybe considered ‘inappropriate’. Please take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy the amazing East Side Gallery !

Once more about sales

Everly late May, throughout June until July most retailers announce their sales. Scoring something you wanted for a very long time at reduced cost can be thrilling but it is easy to lose you head at the same time.

After years of making my own mistakes, I decided to put a guide with all of my tips on how to shop sales. Things to avoid, when to wait and how not to waste your hard-earned cash. I have done few posts in the past on the subject and I hope that this one will approach shopping sales from slightly different angle but if you are interested you can check them out here and here.

Ps. This post is not sponsored and all of the recommendations are my own !

  • Sometimes later is better…

From time to time it is better to give ourselves more time before buying anything. What I try to do when I see an item that I really like is to put it in the basket (if I shop online) and give it a week or two. If after that time, I still keep going back to my basket I know that the item in question is a special one.

I have recently discovered a website called shortagr.com that is free to use and once you signed up, it will allow you to save the items you like to your wish list and it would automatically notify you when they go on sale or when they are available if they are out of stock. You can opt for an email or mobile notification. Every little helps as they say !

  • Knowing when to pull a trigger

This point is an exact opposite of my first suggestion but on rare occasion you need to have the courage to make an instant decision. High in demand pieces sell very quickly and although I try not to rush, I learnt to act straightaway when I have to.

This skirt is a perfect example of that… When I first saw it in the store, it was already sold out online. Despite of not being sure if it is right for me, I knew it was now or never. I bought it and paid full price as I could predict it will not go on sale !

  • Simplicity is always better

Shopping especially sales may make you feel like buying items only because they are reduced.  However, what I would recommend is to keep in mind how classic the item is and how well it will perform and hold its use and value. This rule is very important mainly in regards to accessories like shoes and handbags. Classic ones rarely go on sale but when they do, do not hesitate.

These shoes have been on my mind for a very long time. I knew I will get a lot of wear out of them but spending over £600 was not something I wanted or could do. I ended up getting them with 20% off during Black Friday sales. I have still spent a lot of money but I am happy with what I got in return.

  • Making use of what you have

Shopping sales is not about quantity but about quality. Buying just one item that you really wanted will give far greater pleasure and satisfaction than buying many that do not represent what you are about.

I have mentioned this in the past but making a list of things that are on your wish list and you want to add to your closet is a key. Working down the list will take time but you will end up with things you truly love and not the random selection of pieces that do not belong together.

  • Budget management and self-control

Every, even the most amazing sale find comes at a price. Staying within you means is very important. Getting into financial difficulties just to have the latest fashion ‘must’ should never be justified.

I am not a saint and I still learn how to mange my finances and restrain myself from wanting yet another bag, pair of shoes etc. But speaking from experience, I would strongly encourage you to learn on my mistakes in order to prevent you making yours !

What I wore Sunday…feeling blue

Wearing only one colour from head to toes can be very tricky and I would not normally recommend to do it. Having said that I had this particular outfit in mind for a very long time and I just waited for the weather to warm up. Besides whites, blacks and greys blue is the colour I wear the most. Something about it screams out to me and makes me feel comfortable and put together.

As I have mentioned before, I wanted to pair these two items (shirt and skirt) for a while. I think that although they are both quite cool toned blue pieces, they work together well due to texture differences. Pleated midi skirt seems to be my personal must have when it comes to summer wardrobe and as you may know I have quite a collection… (more available here and here).

Before I show you my final look, I wanted to mention that this What I wore Sunday will be the last one for such a regular schedule. I have published a new look every week for more than a year now and I feel like I need to updated my timetable. I am still going to be doing weekly outfit posts every now and again but maybe doing it once a month with all my Instagram looks would be much more interesting ?

Please let me know what would you like to see from me and what are your suggestions ?

That is what I wore Sunday !

Five red lipsticks worth buying…

My red lipstick love affair started about two years ago. When I bought my first one, I was not sure if I am going to wear it and what I going to pair it with. But somehow after trying it once and then twice, I have fallen in love in how it makes me feel and how much more confident I am with red lips.

Over the last year or so, I have tested number of lipsticks with different finish and from different beauty brands and I am thrilled to show you my favourite five. To accompany this post I have done a video on my channel with all the details and information you may need.

I will be showing you my favourites in the price order starting from the cheapest to the most expensive as well as featuring a picture of me wearing the lipstick so hopefully you will be able to tell the difference !

So let’s begin…

It was my first ever red lipstick and I could not have asked for a better recommendation. It is a very matte lipstick that will last all day long. Colour and overall wear is comfortable but it may dry your lips if worn all day, every day. However, it is one of my favourites that I keep going back to !

One of the classics that is well worth trying. It is a very deep red lipstick with matte finish that wears really well in my opinion. It is not as long-lasting as the Sephora one but it will not dry your lips as much so you have to decide what is your priority. All in all, I would highly recommend to try this one as it is a winner in my eyes.

Probably my most used and loved lipstick. I wore it non-stop for quite a few months. It has a matte finish but it is non-drying or sticky and stays in place all day long. Everything about this lipstick is first class and I cannot praise it enough.

This lipstick has the most amazing packaging with huge attention to detail. But what is inside matters and it is pretty stunning as well. The finish of this lipstick is satin and the intensity of colour second to none. It is a pricy one but the quality you get for your money makes up for that in my opinion.

This one is the most expensive of the bunch and the most hyped up at the same time. It comes in a stunning and very minimalist packaging and the content does not disappoint as well. It is a satin finish and the colour itself is very rich and maybe on a slightly darker side. As it is satin finish, staying power is more limited but still fairly long-lasting. A clear choice if you are after some indulgence !

That is my five favourite red lipstick !

Let me know if I missed anything and if there are any others I need to try ?
