What I wore Sunday… making every day count

I do not know about you but my days seem to merge with one another. I cannot tell where the time is going and looking at my pictures from two or three years ago, I am amazed it has been so long since taking them !

Today, I am showing you an outfit not particularly groundbreaking but comfortable and making me feel good. The only new element is this amazing Acne Studios jumper I managed to get on a bargain. It is so oversized and chunky I feel a little bit like a Michelin man but somehow I do not mind that…

Buying things that you love wearing and enjoying every single day is the key. Make them part of your daily style. Do not save anything for special occasion and on a contrary invest more in the items you going to wear on repeat. It is great to dress up for so-called ‘special occasions’ but what matters to me the most, is how I feel every single day.

That is what I wore this particular cold Sunday !

What I wore Sunday… Happy New Year !!

I have been keeping quiet for the last few months due to work and other life commitments. Having said that I missed taking pictures and coming out with new outfit ideas so much so that I decided to come back !

The beginning of the year provides the ideal opportunity for new and maybe fresher start. No unrealistic resolutions for me though just enjoying what I am doing and simply being happy. It is easier said than done but I am determined to give it a go !

As for the outfit that you see today, it is all about simplicity. My favourite colour palette, classic patterns and accessories that last more than season or two. Greys and blues are written all over me and I just feel the most comfortable wearing them.

The only new item of clothing for this post is this amazing Zara coat. I saw it when I went to the shops couple of days before and I just could not resist. It is probably the most muscular of coats I own but as it was the love of first sight, I had to have it…

So that is what I wore Sunday !

All the best for the New Year to you all !!

I hope 2019 will be healthy, happy and the one to remember x

Once more about sales

Everly late May, throughout June until July most retailers announce their sales. Scoring something you wanted for a very long time at reduced cost can be thrilling but it is easy to lose you head at the same time.

After years of making my own mistakes, I decided to put a guide with all of my tips on how to shop sales. Things to avoid, when to wait and how not to waste your hard-earned cash. I have done few posts in the past on the subject and I hope that this one will approach shopping sales from slightly different angle but if you are interested you can check them out here and here.

Ps. This post is not sponsored and all of the recommendations are my own !

  • Sometimes later is better…

From time to time it is better to give ourselves more time before buying anything. What I try to do when I see an item that I really like is to put it in the basket (if I shop online) and give it a week or two. If after that time, I still keep going back to my basket I know that the item in question is a special one.

I have recently discovered a website called shortagr.com that is free to use and once you signed up, it will allow you to save the items you like to your wish list and it would automatically notify you when they go on sale or when they are available if they are out of stock. You can opt for an email or mobile notification. Every little helps as they say !

  • Knowing when to pull a trigger

This point is an exact opposite of my first suggestion but on rare occasion you need to have the courage to make an instant decision. High in demand pieces sell very quickly and although I try not to rush, I learnt to act straightaway when I have to.

This skirt is a perfect example of that… When I first saw it in the store, it was already sold out online. Despite of not being sure if it is right for me, I knew it was now or never. I bought it and paid full price as I could predict it will not go on sale !

  • Simplicity is always better

Shopping especially sales may make you feel like buying items only because they are reduced.  However, what I would recommend is to keep in mind how classic the item is and how well it will perform and hold its use and value. This rule is very important mainly in regards to accessories like shoes and handbags. Classic ones rarely go on sale but when they do, do not hesitate.

These shoes have been on my mind for a very long time. I knew I will get a lot of wear out of them but spending over £600 was not something I wanted or could do. I ended up getting them with 20% off during Black Friday sales. I have still spent a lot of money but I am happy with what I got in return.

  • Making use of what you have

Shopping sales is not about quantity but about quality. Buying just one item that you really wanted will give far greater pleasure and satisfaction than buying many that do not represent what you are about.

I have mentioned this in the past but making a list of things that are on your wish list and you want to add to your closet is a key. Working down the list will take time but you will end up with things you truly love and not the random selection of pieces that do not belong together.

  • Budget management and self-control

Every, even the most amazing sale find comes at a price. Staying within you means is very important. Getting into financial difficulties just to have the latest fashion ‘must’ should never be justified.

I am not a saint and I still learn how to mange my finances and restrain myself from wanting yet another bag, pair of shoes etc. But speaking from experience, I would strongly encourage you to learn on my mistakes in order to prevent you making yours !

What I wore Sunday…feeling blue

Wearing only one colour from head to toes can be very tricky and I would not normally recommend to do it. Having said that I had this particular outfit in mind for a very long time and I just waited for the weather to warm up. Besides whites, blacks and greys blue is the colour I wear the most. Something about it screams out to me and makes me feel comfortable and put together.

As I have mentioned before, I wanted to pair these two items (shirt and skirt) for a while. I think that although they are both quite cool toned blue pieces, they work together well due to texture differences. Pleated midi skirt seems to be my personal must have when it comes to summer wardrobe and as you may know I have quite a collection… (more available here and here).

Before I show you my final look, I wanted to mention that this What I wore Sunday will be the last one for such a regular schedule. I have published a new look every week for more than a year now and I feel like I need to updated my timetable. I am still going to be doing weekly outfit posts every now and again but maybe doing it once a month with all my Instagram looks would be much more interesting ?

Please let me know what would you like to see from me and what are your suggestions ?

That is what I wore Sunday !

What I wore Sunday… prints part 2

As you know from last week’s post prints are not my first choice when it comes to an outfit selection. However, every now and again I come across the piece that I just cannot resist. This is another skirt that stole my heart and I waited for nearly a year to share it with you.

I bought it from Zara and although it is quite difficult to style I knew I have to get it. It has a very unusual cut and in general is much bolder than my usual outfits. My skirt is sold out but I will do my best to find similar options available right now.

The rest of the outfit is minimal and all black. Good quality t-skirt, my favourite pair of sandals and a clutch bag that I wear on repeat. Investing in accessories that will stay with me for a very long time a key in my mind and I often resist buying things for one or two seasons.

Without further delay that is what I wore Sunday !

April

Last month has been a month of change for me. As I have mentioned at the beginning of April, I have recently changed my job and although I am still trying to find my feet I am embracing the opportunity I was given. Starting something new is always scary but at the end of the day we can only regret the things we did not do, not the things we tried and failed !

My fashion choices last month have been more dependent on weather than ever before. Spring has had much slower start than I expected and as I am writing this post it is still only about 10 degrees outside. My favourite outfit of last month would have to be this one featuring grey blazer and skinny jeans combination. Nothing too complicated but somehow it worked really well for me.

As for the outfit you liked the most, it came as no surprise to me as I knew it will be a winner. My husband’s birthday look (available here) was you favourite and I have to admit that I liked it too !

As my time in April has been very limited, I did some shopping but I learned to appreciate and be happy with the things I already own. I did a video featuring all my loved items for last month (available here) if you are interested.

My favourite beauty product of April have been this body scrub by Jo Malone. Pricy but well-worth the money in my opinion. It leaves your skin soft and smooth without taking any moisture out. It has the most amazing scent that is so refreshing and natural at the same time. A clear winner for me !

How was you month like ?

Anything you loved and would recommend for me to try ?

As usual, thank you very much for stopping by and checking out this post.

What I wore Sunday… best husband’s birthday ever !

Dressing up is not something that I practice every day. The older and more mature I get, the more casual I get. The comfort and the quality of the clothing is the more important than fashion… However, when the occasion is right I will do my best to look the part !

The outfit that you see today is very dressy, but very classic at the same time. This dress is such a staple my wardrobe and although you have not seen it before, I had it for quite some time now. I love everything about it, the fit, the lace details all over the neck and how good it makes me feel. It is on a pricy end of the scale but I think it is worth every single penny.

All of the pictures for today’s post where taken just a short walk from where we live. I cannot imagine more beautiful spot and every time I am there I am amazed how pretty that area is !

Without further delay, that is what I wore Sunday (Black Tie special…) !
