What I wore Sunday… my uniform for this time of the year

Autumn for me is all about layering. I love the idea of putting on few layers of different fabrics that will keep me nice and warm. I like to mix texture and colours to add my personal stamp on what I have decided to wear that day.

The outfit that you see today is not particularly ground-breaking but representative on how I like to dress these days. I want to feel comfortable but put together at the same time… Favourite colours of greys, blues and khaki are my go to combination !

To make this outfit a little bit more ‘special’ I added a brooch that I bought some time ago and did not have a chance to wear much. I think brooches are such handy pieces of jewellery that add that something extra to almost every outfit. The brooch can be silver or gold, designer or not, choices are endless !

So without further delay that is what I wore Sunday !

What I wore Sunday… broderie anglaise

Summer is made for dresses and with such a nice weather in the whole of Europe, I am taking full advantage of that situation every single day. More often that not, I stay away from vibrant colours but the dress shown today is one of the exceptions.

When I first saw it, I loved it instantly but decided against buying it due to the price. I debated for quite some time and when I eventually got it, I knew instantly that it was a very good decision.

If you follow me for a while, you may know that I like things that last. Made out of natural fabrics with maybe slightly higher price point but that will serve their purpose season after season. Despite common believe and what I may show you on my blog, label does not matter. I am very keen on supporting and discovering smaller brands with right work ethics and using responsibly sources fabrics so if you have any recommendations let me know !

Moving to the outfit shown today it is nothing new but it feels comfortable and serves the purpose. The dress combined with my favourite bag this season and a pair of black espadrilles is all I could come up with and I like it a lot…

July

It feels like forever since I have done my end of the month post. I have missed June, mostly due to traveling and work but I am glad that I am back this month.

July has been hot and for the first time since moving to UK, it feels like proper summer. You will not believe how happy I am that I can finally wear my lighter clothing and enjoy the sun.

You may know that I had a chance to visit Berlin last month and it was a dream come true for me. I had it on my wish list for a very long time and I can honestly say that Berlin feels like home. The language and the culture maybe different but the layout of the streets, the trams, the bus stops and mostly the tower blocks reminded me very much of my home town…

If you are interested in that trip, there is a Berlin vlog on my channel that hopeful will give you better view of this amazing city.

Due to work commitments, I had less time for the blog and I have not done as many posts as maybe I would like to. I still have many ideas for the future so stay tuned for that !

If there is one item of clothing I have been loving in July, it would have to be a white dress. It is not anything new or ground-breaking but white dress is so summer appropriate and makes me feel dressed well no matter the occasion.

For more white dresses ideas check out posts here and here.

August will be a very busy month but I am hoping to get some time off in September. I would love to hear your recommendations… where would you like me to travel next ?

Thank you very much for stopping by…

I hope that next month will be even better !

Once more about sales

Everly late May, throughout June until July most retailers announce their sales. Scoring something you wanted for a very long time at reduced cost can be thrilling but it is easy to lose you head at the same time.

After years of making my own mistakes, I decided to put a guide with all of my tips on how to shop sales. Things to avoid, when to wait and how not to waste your hard-earned cash. I have done few posts in the past on the subject and I hope that this one will approach shopping sales from slightly different angle but if you are interested you can check them out here and here.

Ps. This post is not sponsored and all of the recommendations are my own !

  • Sometimes later is better…

From time to time it is better to give ourselves more time before buying anything. What I try to do when I see an item that I really like is to put it in the basket (if I shop online) and give it a week or two. If after that time, I still keep going back to my basket I know that the item in question is a special one.

I have recently discovered a website called shortagr.com that is free to use and once you signed up, it will allow you to save the items you like to your wish list and it would automatically notify you when they go on sale or when they are available if they are out of stock. You can opt for an email or mobile notification. Every little helps as they say !

  • Knowing when to pull a trigger

This point is an exact opposite of my first suggestion but on rare occasion you need to have the courage to make an instant decision. High in demand pieces sell very quickly and although I try not to rush, I learnt to act straightaway when I have to.

This skirt is a perfect example of that… When I first saw it in the store, it was already sold out online. Despite of not being sure if it is right for me, I knew it was now or never. I bought it and paid full price as I could predict it will not go on sale !

  • Simplicity is always better

Shopping especially sales may make you feel like buying items only because they are reduced.  However, what I would recommend is to keep in mind how classic the item is and how well it will perform and hold its use and value. This rule is very important mainly in regards to accessories like shoes and handbags. Classic ones rarely go on sale but when they do, do not hesitate.

These shoes have been on my mind for a very long time. I knew I will get a lot of wear out of them but spending over £600 was not something I wanted or could do. I ended up getting them with 20% off during Black Friday sales. I have still spent a lot of money but I am happy with what I got in return.

  • Making use of what you have

Shopping sales is not about quantity but about quality. Buying just one item that you really wanted will give far greater pleasure and satisfaction than buying many that do not represent what you are about.

I have mentioned this in the past but making a list of things that are on your wish list and you want to add to your closet is a key. Working down the list will take time but you will end up with things you truly love and not the random selection of pieces that do not belong together.

  • Budget management and self-control

Every, even the most amazing sale find comes at a price. Staying within you means is very important. Getting into financial difficulties just to have the latest fashion ‘must’ should never be justified.

I am not a saint and I still learn how to mange my finances and restrain myself from wanting yet another bag, pair of shoes etc. But speaking from experience, I would strongly encourage you to learn on my mistakes in order to prevent you making yours !

Happy shopping !

What I wore Sunday… my favourite day of the week

More often than not our likes and dislikes are based on perception and previous experiences. That is exactly why I never used to like Sundays. I associated that day with the end of the freedom and beginning of school, university and later work commitments. Somehow over time and after a lot of work and efforts from myself, I can honestly say that I now enjoy them more than any other day of the week.

As for the outfit of today, I have to admit that I am getting more and more adventurous. I saw this dress on one of the Instagram accounts that I follow and although it is completely not something that feels like me, I knew that I must have it. It is a very feminine dress with unusual for me print but it feels and wears great !

The rest of the outfit is again very simple. I decided to add slightly lighter bag to make it more summer appropriate. Wearing all black is good for winter months but I feel like spring and summer need a little bit more colour.

So that is what I wore last Sunday !

What I wore Sunday… colours of spring

Going for a walk and admiring world around me is something that I enjoy doing and promise myself to do more often. Visiting this beautiful garden last weekend opened my eyes to the fact that I can finally enjoy outdoors and I cannot wait to take the full advantage of that.

My outfit of the day is very Spring appropriate in my opinion. Pastels are very strong this season and from my experience they come back every April-May. The coat that you see in this post has been in my possession for more than four years now. I love to wear it with otherwise very plain outfit. Nothing beats simplicity of white t-shirt and a comfortable pair of blue jeans.

Keeping my accessories simple and to the minimum was a must with this look. One stand out piece is enough for me as I am firm believer in less is more theory.

That is what I wore Sunday !

What I wore Sunday… quiet village life

I had a chance to go to Manchester last week and although I love going there for shopping and to get the chance to experience big city, I could not have been more happy to go home at the end of the day. Hustle and bustle are good for a short break but the noise, traffic and crowds are something that I left behind quite some time ago.

The outfit for this outgoing is anything but glamorous. I wanted to feel comfortable and that was my priority. Jeans and t-shirt are hardly ground breaking but there is nothing wrong in classic combinations.

You may remember this bomber jacket from last year’s post (available here). I have been wearing it a lot since I got it and although I had some initial reservations to the style and its suitability, it worked out very well for me.

That is what I wore Sunday (relaxed style) !!
